Songs for the Susquehanna June 2, 2022, 7 PM @ Bloomsburg Town Park

Theme: Songs for the Susquehanna 

Event begins at 7 pm and ends at 8:30 pm

Many voices will present selections from the compilation Songs for the Susquehanna at the river. We will gather at the banks of the Susquehanna River at the end of Market Street, Bloomsburg.

And/or bring your own “river” poems to share.

Please bring a chair, watch the weather to see if umbrella/rainwear is needed.

Feature: Jesus Salas-Elorza Cinco de Mayo

Theme: Hispanic poetry/poets ~ Poems from Hispanic poets, etc. Poems in another language, or translated into English.

Event begins at 7:30 pm and ends at 9 pm

Jesús Salas Elorza ~ Born in Veracruz, Mexico, Jesús joined the Department of Languages and Cultures at Bloomsburg University in 1996 as a professor of Spanish and Italian. He participated at the international poetry festival Poesía en Mayo organized by some Chicago universities and the Hispanic community. He has published dispersed poems in various venues, including Carver, Diálogo (DePaul University) and Círculo de Poesía (University of Puebla, Mexico). Together with members of River Poets, he contributed to the translation of Mall by Venezuelan poet Julieta León. He has been an active member within the community, volunteering teaching Spanish, and participating in other events. Since 1996 he has participated as a reader or by being featured as a poet in River Poets. His passion is watching water birds from his apartment perched next to the Susquehanna River in Pittston.

Theme: Letting Go ~ an unexpected loss, an unfulfilled dream, a job, an ex, grown children, etc.

Event begins at 7:30 pm and ends at 9 pm

Dawn Leas is the author of A Person Worth Knowing (Foothills Publishing), Take Something When You Go (Winter Goose Publishing), and I Know When to Keep Quiet, (Finishing Line Press). Her poetry has appeared in New York Quarterly, The Paterson Literary Review, Literary Mama, The Pedestal Magazine, SWWIM, and elsewhere. A writing coach, manuscript consultant, and arts educator, she is also a back-of-the pack runner, newbie hiker, salt-water lover, and mom of two grown sons.
