February 1, 2024 Feature: Andrei Bucaloiu

7:30 pm to 9 pm

Theme: “The Foods That Made Us.”  I love to use different dishes as an entry into reflections on intergenerational memory and reconciling different aspects of one’s identity, particularly in the context of immigration. Some foods can transport me into stories my great-grandfather used to tell, that I never lived or experienced myself, but that I can feel with every smoky bite of sausage or the pointy smell of cabbage rolls.

Andrei Bucaloiu is a writer and prospective medical student based in Central Pennsylvania pursuing a career in medicine and the medical humanities. He immigrated to the United States from Romania with his family at a young age and focuses his writing on cultural identity, intergenerational memory, and language loss. Andrei lives in Lewisburg, PA with his wife and their black cat, Winnie.
