Mike Heyd is a native Pennsylvanian and a graduate of Juniata College and SUNY at Geneseo. Over the years he has had one vocation — medical librarian for more than 4 decades — but many avocations, including book reviewer, editor, educator, newsletter creator, singer-songwriter, and, of course, poet, which brings us to today. |

Yes. April is National Poetry month. All of it. April 1 through April 30th
For all of April 2025, River Poets will distribute a number of Haiku throughout Bloomsburg. Look for them in shops, along walks, in parks, on walls, sidewalks. Take some time to read and think about one that you have found.
Simple presentations of white canvas boards with black lettering feature works mostly by Basho, Issa, and Jack Kerouac, with a few others tossed in the mix.
The Haiku often is thought to be a 3 line 17 syllable 5-7-5 layout. That is often not the case translated into English. So consider the effort to be Americanized Haiku…mostly 3 lines not necessarily 17 syllables and definitely not 5-7-5. However, they are shorter than this explanation.
