Theme: Poet’s Choice
While the poets from Poetry Under the Painting have not been together as long as River Poets, we have taken pleasure in one another’s words — or in the words of emerging and established poets — for quite a few years now.
We read round robin and wait for a theme to emerge… which it so often does! With every month that passes, and every person who joins us and those who depart, we keep learning to listen more deeply and more appreciatively for everyone’s style and point of view.”

THEME: We’ve got the Beats
Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Gary Snyder, Gregory Corso, Diane Di Prima, Anne Waldman, Peter Orlovski, and others were mid-twentieth century poets and writers as well as post-Second World War witnesses to the arrival of the atomic age, existentialism, nihilism, and dynamic forces in poetry – two atomic bombs threatened the world order; we have more to worry about now.

THEME: Summer Garden. Bring poems about gardens. Bring cut flowers.
S.E. Gilman has published articles, short fiction, and poems since the 1970s and with some amazement, she’s still writing. She taught writing at Bloomsburg University and was a featured speaker on campus in the Big Dog Reading Series. Her work has appeared in Meat for Tea, Word Fountain, The Portland Review, The Distillery, Permafrost, Stone Drum, Interstate, and other small press magazines She used to be a beautiful young flower and now she is an old fruit. But now she has a doctorate.
